This handmade tapestry, titled Chitrkaar-1, presents a juxtaposition of matching and contrasting colors to create a stunning visual impact. ‘Chitrakaar’ which means an artist, is inspired by a self-portrait by M.F.Hussien, the renowned Indian artist of the twentieth century. A lush snow-white mane and beard are trademarks of this world-renowned artist who always walked barefoot. The blue elephant in the portrait depicts Gaj Gamini – a movie produced by Hussien during a phase when he was said to be infatuated with a famous Indian movie star. The detailing in the tapestry and its association with Hussien’s infatuation makes it a rare collector’s item.
